Does Hamsterliste work without iCloud?
Yes. All data is stored locally on your device. iCloud is only needed if you want to sync lists between several Apple devices.
Do I need Apple Intelligence for auto-categorisation?
Not strictly. If your device supports Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro / 16 / 17 / 18 and newer with iOS 26), Hamsterliste uses the local Foundation Model — more precise, also understands more complex product names. On other iPhones a built-in keyword classifier kicks in. You can always change the category of an item manually.
Are my shopping data sent to OpenAI / Anthropic / Google?
No. Hamsterliste only uses Apple's on-device model — no data transmission, no server round-trips, no external AI providers.
Can I share lists with family?
Sharing between Apple IDs is built into v1.0. In a list, tap the share button — your partner receives an iMessage with a join link.
What happens when I switch to a new iPhone?
With iCloud active, all lists, stores and categories transfer automatically to the new device once you sign in with the same Apple ID. Everything is also covered by your regular iCloud backup.
How do I delete all my data?
Deleting the app from the device removes the local copy. Via iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Hamsterliste you can also delete the cloud copy permanently.
Which stores / chains does the app support?
Pre-built layouts exist for: Edeka, Rewe, Kaufland (full-range), Lidl, Aldi Süd, Aldi Nord, Netto Marken-Discount, Netto (Edeka), Penny (discounters), dm, Rossmann, Müller, Budnikowsky (drugstores). You can also add any custom store and configure the layout freely.
What languages does the app support?
Currently available or in preparation: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian. The app follows your device language automatically. On language change, seeded categories are translated automatically — categories you created or renamed remain unchanged.
Premium vs. Free — what's the difference?
Free: 1 store, 1 list, max. 30 items per list. Premium (one-time, not a subscription) lifts all limits, unlocks list sharing and supports development.
